Hello Hello, Tribe! Tehani here. Whew!!! The summer season has arrived (the solstice is so close!) and with it has come the customary flurry of events and workshops and great times! I'm a bit pooped - I had an educational dance program today preceded by a fire show and another entertainment gig - and thought this would be a good time to kick up my feet, update the website and get some office work done. No more running and driving around until tomorrow (which is a meaningful day for me: Happy Father's Day to all the dads out there this Sunday!).
Of all the events and happenings going on, I wanted to share with you some SEVA (service) that I did a couple weeks ago. I annually volunteer to be on a panel of project evaluators for a group of very gifted and talented youth locally right here in LB (yay!). It was a night of remarkable young minds and lots and lots of caffeine to get me through a full work night afterward. As always, it was worth it! I am humbled and honored to give my time to such a wonderful cause that makes such a big difference in these students' lives. Good times.
This year's event was particularly special in that not only was I able to witness inspiring objectives come to fruition for so many of these high school kids participating in the QSP program, but I was able to mentor one of the students in the convergent link between performance art and wellness practices. It was fulfilling and fun work. I'm always amazed how intelligent and truly compassionate our young adults are. It gives me hope for the world.
My mentee this year, as part of the mentorship program, asked me what so many of YOU ask me regularly (what do you actually do?) as part of an assignment. I thought it would be appropriate to share our conversation here in case any of you were interested in learning more about this work and what I actually "DO":
